Flash Fiction and Six Months Update

Tomorrow will include my first Flash Fiction Fridays, and I wanted to take a moment to comment upon flash fiction. According to Wikipedia, flash fiction is fiction of extreme brevity. There is no widely accepted definition of the length of the category. Some self-described markets for flash fiction impose caps as low as 300, while others consider stories as long as 1000 words to be flash fiction. I will be writing stories in any genre I so chose, and my goal is stories of 500 words or less. If the story is a little over, then I won't worry, but I am going to make certain not to have anything over 1,000 words. Flash fiction stories will be announced with this picture I made:

I thought the Flash was highly appropriate. *grins* So, my first flash fiction piece will be up tomorrow.

Also, it's hard to believe that six months have passed in 2010. I wanted to take a moment to reflect upon my writing statistics from January 2010-June 2010.

In the past six months:
Submissions: 20
Rejections: 14
Acceptances: 4
Stories currently in Submission World: 4
Words Written: 42,885

It's not bad for the past sixth months, and I was impressed by my word count because I thought it was a lot less, since I haven't been writing much lately.

For the next six months, I plan to write more, starting this month. My goal is to write a little every day. Here is my writing schedule:
Mondays - Novel
Tuesdays - Short Story
Wednesdays - Novella
Thursdays and Fridays - Miscellaneous Writing
Saturdays and Sundays - Editing

Of course, this schedule is subject to change, particularly in November where writing will just include NaNoWriMo 2010, where I will be writing Sarah's Nightmare, a thriller/horror novel.

For this month, I have at least three short stories planned to write and a few flash fiction pieces.

In other words, I better get writing!
