Hip Hop mogul and music producer Dr. Dre has announced that he will be donating all of the proceeds from his new album to a Compton charity.

The album, which was the 50 year old’s first in 16 years, was released on August 7th .  Dre used his partnership with Apple Music and Beats 1 to announce details about his work prior to its release, and “Compton: A Soundtrack” was premiered exclusively on Beats 1 Radio.

“Compton” is Dre’s third studio work and will be the official soundtrack for the upcoming movie, “Straight Outta Compton” – a biopic about the famous gangsta’ rap group N.W.A. Featured in the 16-tracked LP are big names such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Eminem, The Game, Ice Cube and Xzibit.

Talking on Beats 1 radio with DJ Zane Lowe, Dre broke the news that all his artist royalties for the work on the album would be donated to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment center in Compton.

“I feel it’s the right thing to do,” Dre said. “And I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album.” Dre will be hands-on with overseeing the project along with Compton mayor Aja Brown.

Dre explained, “I reached out to the Compton mayor’s office, got in touch with the mayor, Aja Brown, and I’ve decided to donate all of my artist royalties from the sale of this album to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility for the kids in Compton.  I’ve been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn’t quite figure out what it was. [Brown] actually had this idea, and she was already in the process of working on it.”

Earlier, Dre had said that his album was inspired by the movie itself. “During principal photography, I felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album.”

“Straight Outta Compton” is expected to be released on August 14th.
