When we poll our readers and editors about fashion and apparel though, they tend to focus more on the unique boutiques and shops scattered around the city. This year, the top slot returned to Tigertree, a Short North destination since 2007 that features both men's and women's fashion and accessories, in addition to home goods, gifts and plenty of other surprises. Score Ultra-Soft Alpaca Apparel at This Greenwich Pop-Up - Westchester Magazine Posted: 20 Dec 2019 01:48 PM PST Online retailer Moda Kalon's sustainable, artisanal alpaca accessories — the perfect gift — are available on Greenwich Ave for the next month. By Dave Zucker Photos by Juan Manuel Martinez Arróspide Alpaca wool has long been a fashionista favorite. Lightweight but insular, durable, water-repellant, and resistant to pilling and even fire, the ultra-luxurious, hypoallergic fabric can, in its raw form, feel even softer than cashmere. It is popular as an environmentally friendly, cruelty free alternative to animal fur. Decades ago, longtime friends Carmen Alfaro and John Cerullo took a vacation to Alfaro's native Peru. The two were gifted alpaca by their hosts and Cerullo, an Elmsford resident, fell in love with the natural fiber on their trip. In May, Cerullo, a CPA, and Alfaro, who has 30 years of experience in the fashion industry, decided to create Moda Kalon, their own line of bespoke alpaca apparel available exclusively online (with a pop-up location this holiday season in Greenwich). Cerullo says that alpaca is unique because "the industry supports and sustains local families who make their living making the fabric, making the clothing," says Cerullo, with Alfaro adding that it's versatile: "It's easy to take care of. The fabric is easy to mix to make beautiful sweaters — it can be mixed with silk, with cotton." With regard to using animals to keep us warm, Cerullo explains: "The fabric is made in a cruelty-free way, and the whole industry is part of sustainability." Moda Kalon's alpaca is harvested once a year from shorn animals and handmade in small batches, to create not only warm coats, capes, and slippers, but also light and layerable tops, brightly colored pashminas, hats, and sweaters. While many clothing is mass manufactured nowadays, Moda Kalon's products are all made to order. Alfaro works directly with suppliers and producers to craft custom pieces for each customer. "Clients are only comfortable when the piece fits exactly the way they want it," Alfaro says. "Not everybody has the same size, not everybody has the same body." "You have to start small," she says. "It's a better way to communicate and supervise, and ensure the fabric is coming from [a specific] source. We're not interested in a large production because, at the end, it's a waste. Even if it's a wonderful product, I don't want to make thousands of pieces in one season and then we don't sell it. I prefer to make specific pieces...and make sure the customers are comfortable and happy with it." Their pop-up shop is open until January 31 at 88 Greenwich Ave to give local shoppers a chance to see — and feel —the special quality.

We spotted these new "Park Life" collection items that look pretty similar to the old Passport collection. Let's take a closer look! Walt Disney World Icon Ornament – $19.99 This brand new ornament features a glittery Mickey and Minnie sitting on a park bench with the four park icons behind them. Walt Disney World is also below them in a glittery and retro font as well. The back features a classic stylized drawing of Mickey in the center of a compass, holding up a pennant. Again, the retro font makes a return with the Walt Disney World text beneath it. The base of the ornament shows how the pieces are attached to give a 3-D look to the ornament. Walt Disney World Icon T-Shirt – $36.99 This heather pink shirt features Mickey and the gang enjoying all the main attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort. With Animal Kingdom, we see the Tree of Life and Expedition Everest, Hollywood Studios shows off the Hollywood Tower of Terror and Slinky Dog Dash, Magic Kingdom features Cinderella Castle, along with Prince Charming Carousel, Dumbo, Peter Pan's Flight and it's a small world, and last but not least, EPCOT shows off the Journey Into the Imagination! with Figment and Spaceship Earth. These icons are used throughout the rest of the collection as well. 12 Days of Socks Collection – $34.99 If you're still looking for a last minute Christmas gift, these 12 Days of Socks package is perfect for all the Disney fans in your life, or sock collectors. The back of the box shows that the socks will either come in low cut or crew style. Crossbody Park Life Bag – $29.99 This small crossbody bag features the park icons stitched onto the bag to give a 3-D look. It also features an adjustable strap and two pockets. The back also features a screen printed Minnie Mouse with a balloon. Park Life Long Sleeve Shirt – $39.99 This long sleeve shirt features the same artwork from the rest of the collection, but with some extra sparkles! Park Life Beach Towel – $26.99 This beach towel features Mickey and friends enjoying various attractions, including some different ones than what we've seen on other merchandise items. Park Life Walt Disney World Throw Blanket – $39.99 This giant throw blanket features various park icons and characters throughout. We got a chance to open one up to get a really good look at it. On the bottom, the compass with the retro Walt Disney World text is stitched into the material. Drawstring Bag – $19.99 This navy nylon drawstring bag features a screen printed Mickey head featuring various attractions, with the Walt Disney World stitched on in retro font. There's adjustable straps and a small hook for you to carry around all of your park necessities! Navy Zip Up Jacket – $64.99 This heather navy zip up jacket features a small Mickey up in the top corner. This Park Life collection icon is screen printed onto the material, with the Walt Disney World retro font stitched in. The back shows off a screen printed Mickey head featuring various attractions, with the Walt Disney World stitched on in retro font. Within the hood, you can see some of the park icons in the lining. Along the sleeve features each park icon in a color coordinated compass. Park Life Leggings – $39.99 This bright blue leggings feature all of the park icons and characters enjoying their day out. Loungefly Park Life Backpack – $75.00 This Loungefly backpack features the same pattern as on the leggings with a bright blue background. Both sides feature a bottle holder, perfect for storing your water or sunglasses when you're out and about the parks yourself. The zipper is silver and lined with a slightly darker blue trim. The back features adjustable straps and a hook to make carrying things easier throughout your day. The inside lining matches the blue on the outside, as well as featuring light grey icons of various attractions. Child Minnie Park Life Shirt – $29.99 This sequined child shirt features Minnie front and center with the park icons behind her. The reversible sequins are on her cotton candy and on the Walt Disney World text. Child Park Life Pants – $29.99 Much like the version for adults, we see the characters and various park icons. However, this version is bright pink and features a sequin trim on the legs. Child Park Life Icon Shirt – $24.99 Although this shirt doesn't feature sequins for your child to flip all day, it does feature fabric flaps with park attractions underneath of them. Child Zip Up Jacket – $44.99 This child zip up jacket features Chip 'n' Dale on the bottom pocket stitched in, as well as Minnie riding on the carousel on the top. The back features the gang all enjoying their day with a mixture of embroidered and screen printed designs. The lining of the hood is a bright pink with a variety of park characters and icons, similar to the children's leggings. Mickey Mouse Plush – $21.99 This new Mickey Mouse plush features Mickey wearing jeans and a bright patterned button up. He's also holding a felt pennant similar to the Park Life icon that we've seen on other merchandise items. We hope to find this shirt in an adult sized version soon. Minnie Mouse Plush – $21.99 This Minnie Mouse plush features her wearing a new dapper dress with the same blue attraction pattern. She's topped her look off with a patterned bow as well. This tie up halter dress we hope will soon be making it's way to The Dress Shop soon so we can wear this cute dress too! Minnie also is holding a fuzzy cotton candy bunch in her hand. Walt Disney World Park Life Puzzle – $22.99 This 1000 piece puzzle features a bright aqua background and a navy filled Mickey head with all the fun attractions of Walt Disney World. This puzzle would look great framed once completed if you're a fan of this Park Life collection. Crisped Rice Cereal Treats If you're a fan of the chocolate crisped rice treats, you can purchase this redesigned box that holds four of these delicious treats inside. The back features all of the nutritional information you may need. We couldn't find a price on these so they may be changing or just don't have a price tag on the packaging since they are so new. Taffy Treat Box This fun themed taffy box features over a pounds worth of individually wrapped taffy. The side of the box features a cute design that wraps around to the rest of the box. The back features the nutritional information. Again, we couldn't find a price on this item. Chocolate Coins These small pouches of chocolate coins feature individually wrapped coins with character faces on them. These chocolate coins did not have a price on them, but you can find them in bins by the cash registers in merchandise locations. Mickey Head Tray – $14.99 This ceramic Mickey head tray features the Park Life design on the center. Park Life Mug – $17.99 This navy coffee mug features the park icons with Mickey and friends enjoying all of the sights on the front. This artwork design is featured all the way around this mug. The inside lining of the mug is a light blue with Prince Charming Carousel featured as well. Chocolate Bar Pack – $15.99 If you need your chocolate fix, you can pick up this newly designed chocolate bar pack. The package features five chocolate bars and features each bar's nutritional information on the back. Strawberry Cotton Candy This strawberry cotton candy comes in a small tub with Minnie Mouse enjoying her own cotton candy on the front packaging. The back features the nutritional information. With this item, we also couldn't find the price. We spotted this brand new Park Life merchandise line at MouseGears at EPCOT, but we expect to see it debuted across the rest of the Walt Disney Resort soon.
