Under-$100 Dresses For Any Party, From Prom To Wedding - Refinery29

Posted: 12 Mar 2019 12:08 PM PDT

We all know that April showers bring May flowers, right? Unspoken among us women is that the entirety of spring — and summer — brings a different kind of shower. The kind where you have to bring a present, see old friends, get photographed a lot, and are expected to look really, really cute. If spring isn't bringing you a shower, then it's probably bringing you a formal event of some kind — maybe it's prom, or a wedding, or even (gasp) a high school reunion. For any and all of these events, you need a special dress.

When It Comes To Dressing Up, Two Pieces Are Better Than One - Refinery29

What if, for the price of a single dress, you could get two items — a top and a bottom that would function independently and as a team? If you're anything like us, you'd jump for joy. We love the idea of wearing a two-piece dress to the next party, and then splitting up the pieces and letting them liven up our existing wardrobes. Maybe you can use the top to dress up jeans, or combine the bottom with a boxy fashion button-down. And when one purchase will result in essentially three outfits, it takes a lot of the guesswork out of dressing for your social obligations this summer. Scroll through to find the two-piece that's going to be your number one warm-weather companion.

With secondhand dresses, Brockton woman looks to make prom more affordable - Enterprise News

Brockton High grad Quiara Kee is collecting prom dresses to sell at low cost to Brockton girls.

BROCKTON — Quiara Kee's closet is stuffed.

But the Brockton woman's collection of more than 50 glitzy dresses isn't for herself. Kee has spent the past three months collecting secondhand prom dresses, which she plans to sell to Brockton girls at an affordable price.

"I'm pretty sure everyone has their prom dress, and its just sitting in the back of everyone's closet," she said.

Those old dresses still have a lot of life in them, Kee said. She will sell the donated dresses for $50 each on March 30 to Brockton teenagers. She wants to get those older dresses into the hands of Brockotn girls who might otherwise have a hard time paying for prom.

Kee's own Brockton High School prom was 10 years ago, but she still remembers how difficult it was to pay for a formal gown. Now, she wants to help other Brockton girls attend their prom, even if they don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on a dress.

Since she graduated from Brockton High in 2009, Kee has been looking for creative ways to give back to her city, she said. Through a non-profit organization called Kee's Helping Hand, she has been organizing events for local children and families since 2016. The prom dress sale, she said, is an outgrowth of that work.

Organizations like Belle of the Ball, which gives away dresses for free, require that a guidance counselor or a social services agency refer girls. Kee said she is welcoming all comers.

The dresses — as well as shoes and jewelry — can be purchased beginning at 3 p.m. on March 30 at the BCity Reps Dance Studio, at 60 Skinner St.

She's also taking all dresses, as long as they're in good condition and not too revealing, Kee said. She is even paying to have the dresses cleaned.

"Any dress is a good dress," she said. "Girls would be more than happy to take that dress, and make their own memories in that dress."
