(note - not actual attic!!!!!!) I am going to speak quite honestly here so, here goes, I don't like Awear. there. i said it. it's a shame that I don't because, i don't like the fabrics they use. I used to like them a lot when I was younger and there are some good pieces as basics but not my usual style of clothing. I find it a bit too.......well, just not for me.
So imagine my surprise when scrolling through some stuff I found an article on, The attic.
A new venture for Awear.
the top floor in Awear in Dublin is being converted into a showcase for young designers (presumably from NCAD in Dublin - fashion course) and there will be new designers each weekend on the saturday, hmmm I said curiously. Ok lads. you have my attention.
Since I am planning a business trip to Dublin for the vintage fair weekend after next I thought I would have a sneaky peek at this, new attic business. (plus it's directly across from the loft which is Dublin's best kept secret so if it's shit I can pop in there!!!!) so I'm not sure when it is starting but the launch happened this week (hence the slightly preteen attendance photos in the Cork Examiner - hmmm, off putting slightly?) but the concept is brilliant.
I think it's well worth a look anyway considering that being a young designer mid/post college is hard when you have to break out onto the scene and getting somewhere to work with you and showcase your designs is hard work.
it would have been nice if in a nod to the Limerick course in LSAD they offered the same deal as in 'the basement' (we have no upstairs in ours!) but maybe if Dublin is a success they could expand the operation.
So expect coverage of 'The Attic' if it indeed has happened when I get to Dublin on the 25th of April..............watch this space...............
and a handy tip for my fellow students - Awear has just launched their student discount. 15% which is pretty tasty considering Arcadia is only 10%. So flash that card!
