LA-based Elliot Jones fed the pop masses with "i'm in love" and "Groupie" last year. However, with most on month six of COVID stay-at-home guidelines, the new music hunger is difficult to satisfy.
Hence, the talented artist's first release of 2020.
The new "Do It Again" is a counter-productive anthem, touching on ignoring one's own best interests when it comes to romance. Detailing the struggles of on-again, off-again relationships, Jones acknowledges an apparent fetish for broken hearts and emotional scarring.
Juxtaposed with subtle yet bright production, the artist sings of encountering the same issues when it comes to giving his heart to another. The lying, the tears, the failed promises. However, even with all the lived experienced under his belt, a path toward improvement or lessons learned has yet to be identified. So, the cycle starts all over again.
"Why do I do this?, fall in love with my own lies, know the truth, but act so clueless," he admits on the second verse, ultimately ignoring his own advice.
Jones must come to terms with his tendency to quickly jump into a new relationship, perhaps before properly healing from the previous heartache. "Do It Again" capitalizes on this common sense of delusion, falsely reassuring yourself that this new fling will be somehow be different than all the others. The tinkering beats and dreamy vocal performance play perfectly into the façade.
To accompany the new single release, the music video for "Do It Again" is shared as well. Shot entirely in quarantine by an all LGBT cast and crew, the visual is inspired by Grindhouse film aesthetics and loosely follows a plotline of Jones kidnapping love interests, only to have them always escape his perfectly-manicured clutches.
Overall, Jones' latest effort continues to signal promise and talent from a young, unsigned independent artist. I know we JUST got "Do It Again", but already looking forward to what might come next!
